Hello bisexuals this is for you. Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell star in this truly iconic screwball comedy and it makes me, bisexual of some form of gender, insane. They are both hilarious and ridiculous and so so gender. The dialogues are so fast paced I’m pretty sure they set a record. Cary grant plays Walter Burns, a newspaper editor whose ex wife is leaving the paper and remarrying. And of course he’s a perfect gentleman about this. Insufferable nightmare babygirl of my dreams, Walter Burns is so annoying and I love him so much. Rosalind Russell’s Hildy Johnson going from exasperated to exhilarated is so good. Come on, we’re all friends here, we all know what seeing a divorced couple aggravating each other like only they can does to us all. Please watch this movie.

Can i be picky, pricky, mean and bitch a little? Pretty please?

So, I've watched x-men apocalypse (wow, I'm soo early to this party). It was nice, and look, there's my country (so of course I'm gonna have opinions). And well. I've been reading fanfics, and as i skim thru the tags i see Nina Gurzsky, and then again, and hm again, and who tf is Nin... Oh, NINA, as in Erik's daughter. Wait, Gurzsky?

What kind of surname is that? Because it's not Polish. (but we can fix that.)

I know in comics Magda is of Romani ancestry but i don't remember it being mentioned in the movie? So i guess she's polish-polish. And "Gurzsky" looks like she's 4th or 5th generation of emmigrants to america, has let everyone pronounce the name anyhow which led to diff spelling, and doesn't speak polish anymore.

(Really, who came up with that name, I'd like a word. What was your reasoning, your reasearch, the background you came up for Magda? Maybe it makes sense and is justified to be like that? Maybe I'm wrong, don't have all the info, misunderstood something? Then I'm really sorry.)

So i guess anglophones just skip this surname all together, but let's try to read it. It would be something like goo-zh-ski or goor-zz-ski. Both are bad and hard to pronounce. Why is the "z" there? Why complicate it unnecessarily? Let's drop it (some ppl would do it anyway, even if it being there was justified, it's called simplification and it happens when there's many hard consonats next to each other, or something, i'm half asleep). My brain did it intuitively upon reading this name. It shouldn't be there. There's no reason i could see. So it's Gursky now.

Ehh. How many times? "-ski" is traditional ending of a polish surname, and used to indicate nobility. "-sky" is traditional transliteration from cyrylic alphabet, it's for the russian surnames. (And the ending "-sky" came there from Poland.) (I'm very passionate about that, sorry not sorry. But don't get me started at another polish surname "-cki" bc americans always pronounce it wrong. That “c” is separate letter and not just “k”, and i don't think i can find corresponding sound in english language (so you might be forgiven) and i don't want to bombard you with IPA (never mind, next day me kinda wants, so, it’s like “ts”, or german “z”), especially that it's not main topic of that post. But really, you could put some effort. We know the language is very different from your own, with weird sounds, but please, try. We're gonna love you for that. For one word. Anything really. Well, you already know “kurwa”, so maybe one more. Sorry, i digress.) So, it's "-ski", but not really. This type of surname changes based on gender. "-ski" is masculine, and "-ska" is feminine. Yes, not always, there are women with “-ski” and men with “-ska”, but then it does not flex at all (same form for both genders). You just have to ask. But that's minority. So now it's Gurska.

And surnames don't have to follow general rules of orthography and flexion, they can have their own unique spelling and way of decletion, you need to ask the bearer of the name. But. They still usually do. So looking at that name? It begs to be the deriving from mountains: góry. So it should be Górska. Pronounced: goor-skah. Now it is a Polish name. A good one.

So. I'm gonna use this name for that little family. It's canon for me now. Magda Górska and Nina Górska, and Erik was going under Henryk Górski. (Kinda cute if you ask me.)

There is something that no one has commented on that is possible.

The TH/ZH ring is an engagement ring in disguise.

I noticed that she wears that ring more since February (I know they're going to say that in November and December she wore it too, but she didn't wear it as often as she does now), plus you don't have such a specific ring made.

She has her engagement ring but doesn't wear it because it attracts too much attention and as it has been said here, they don't want to attract the attention of the paparazzi and that signet ring is the best cover.

Their signet rings have a special meaning. As you said, signet rings do not attract as much attention as classic engagement rings. And to add that both rings just appeared out of nowhere (Tom's since that trip to Paris and Z's I think I saw it for the first time when they visited her school).

And the fact that her ring has a TH/ZC on it and on his ring is orca and swallow. That shit is from a romantic movie ngl 🥹

Not sure if anyone has done this before, but this is my theory of Equestria and Opaline.

So, Spike revealed that when Opaline started attacking Equestria and stealing magic, Twilight casted the protection spell then created the Unity crystals and gave them to the different pony kinds to keep safe and ordered them to hide them, which they did. She then created the dragon stone and hid it away while Spoke led the Dragons to Scaly to hide.

I believe that during this time, Opaline most likely targeted Twilight's friends which also led to her creating the Crystals, but this probably drained her magic which shorted her lifespan.

We know in the movie that ponies used to visit ZH in the past before stopping, then in MYM sunny says that an earth pony was injured by a unicorn which led to the three pony kinds to fight, making Twilight create the crystals, I think this story ties into the past.

I think that one day, when unicorns and earth ponies did visit each other, an earth pony was indeed hurt by a unicorn and the three pony kinds blamed each other and caused them to spread rumours about each other (the ones hitch and sprout tell Sunny) and then stopped visiting each other.

This means that they stopped sharing stories about them living together in harmony and instead creating their own stories about the past (and ignoring the existing ones), this is probably why Alphabrittle and the royal family didn't know that they held pieces of the unity crystals.

Anyways, that's my theory, what do you think?

Hi ksenya!! Decided i want to learn Russian, do you have any advice?

No idea! Its my native language and i grew up swimming in it. Only general learning advice! Also guesses on some of trouble you may run into.

General: Practice is everything. You must learn the basics, start trying out vocabulary, then look at the phrase dictionaries immediately and do your best to talk w native speakers. That way they can correct you and get a cool experience (we don't see many ppl learning the language bc of how hard and unpopular it is). Plus, watching movies in Russian with subtitles, or staring at Russian subtitles, bc those are more readily available, is ALSO practice. Especially the first one. You get to hear the correct pronunciation and all.

You can try finding Russian songs you like, on my side I suggest Машина времени and PIZZA for bands. Maybe even Сергей Заковряжный (singer)

Problems: Russian has some very specific pronunciation principles, but also. Learning to pronounce it is gonna be hard. It reads as it's written unless vowels xyz are unstressed then it reads the other way. Oh there's also the consonants d and g and zh they can become t and k and sh on a whim. Rolling Rs and ц (ts) and soft sounds. Don't get me started on ь ы ъ. One of them is a vowel that isn't transcribable in English. It's pretty much the sound that pops between two hard consonants when you chain them together, like in up-date. But long. And voiced. The other two are just signs. One makes consonants soft and fucks shit up. The other just fucks shit up. You don't read them

Don't get me started on word stresses. There's almost no system. Native speakers fuck it up all the time. There's dictionaries just for that.

Grammar, unlike the other two, is VERY strict. Unlike in English, you won't be left swimming but will find rules upon rules upon rules. Punctuation especially. The only thing that's hardly managed is word order, but still, the stress of the sentence depends on it. Usually the last word of simple sentences is most important/stressed. New info or clarification.

Its also very rich. You will have to learn. So much. We had to learn so much. So take it slow. It will take many years. We learn Russian for the whole of school and then after that even if the profession doesn't require it. The stuff that gets learned the longest is grammar, punctuation and word stress.

There are 7 cases btw. And that's not all. Also it's a very gendered language. We don't have articles tho. We also have 3-4 special ways of doing nouns. :] there's also 2 cases for verbs.

But also - don't worry. Russian grammarists have you safe and you should be able to find rules for all of it and how to differentiate everything

So for now. Dive into that vocabulary with duolingo or lingvaleo. Get some phrases into your brain. Stare at media. Go wild. Rules can wait a bit.

The television blinked off, the remote carelessly dropped onto a coffee table that looked like it had been pulled out of the harbor, dusted off, and set in the middle of a living room as if it still had any business being in polite company. He wriggled left, right, left, and eventually managed to roll to his right out of the greasy, dark-stained pit he’d worn for himself in the seat of the broken La-Z-Boy. His feet kicked a few beer cans to the corners of the dingy, trash-strewn apartment as they padded, bare, across the stain-and-mess-colored kitchen tile. He pried open the fridge door with his grimy toes, the corner of the once-white fridge stained with filthy brown footprints from the habit. He fished out another can of Bud Light, and popped open the can. He sucked down several gulps of his liquid bread before looking about the apartment.

He really should clean. If there was nothing good on TV and he was too broke to go out, maybe he could at least pick up a few cans. But what the hell else was he going to do? Walk to Blockbuster and rent a movie? 

Actually? Yeah. Yeah, he could do that. Get one of them old monster movies, see if they were renting out Alien or maybe even Terminator! Yeah, he could make it a night, go to that pizza place on Eastman and Laird that just opened up. It’d be nice to get out of the apartment for a change. Cleaning could wait.

He lifted his arm, warily sniffing his own body. He leered, gagging on the stench, his face twisted up like a gargoyle. “Eugh. Maybe I should shower first.” He grunted.

Whoosh!

He whirled around to look at his window where he heard the noise. A car? No, no way. He was up on the 18th floor. A bird? No. Too big. Way too big.

Crrrnch, crrrnch, crrrnch, WHOMPF!

His eyes tracked up the wall of his apartment, following a trickle of dust up the wall and across the ceiling, as he watched in horror. Something was… crunching the brick of the wall outside. Something big, strong, fast, and very heavy. Now it was on the roof.

He heard a pained cry of a person. Or an animal? He rubbed his bloodshot eyes, gulping dryly. Right. Leaving. He was leaving. Screw the shower. He was from the Bronx; he knew trouble when he smelled it, and had gotten very good at avoiding it. He grabbed his work coat, put it on over his shoulders, and fished out a hat to jam over his greasy, stringy hair. He slipped on a pair of flip flops and slipped out of the apartment.

He stood in the hallway, quietly debating if he should bother waiting for the elevator, or take the stairs and aggravate his asthma. He heard a low rumble over his head, felt the building tremble subtly. Another stream of dust trickled from the ceiling. Stairs. Never take the elevator in an emergency. He shouldered open the stairwell door, flip flops slapping against his heels as he shuffled down the stairs as fast as he dared.

What on earth could be making that racket? Punks? Pigeons? Terrorists? His blood went cold at that last one. The planes hit the Twin Towers only a few weeks ago. What if it was another attack? His thoughts raced as he found himself going down the stairs a little faster, sandals clopping from a trot up to a canter. 

Pizza. Movie. And if the cops showed up, he'd just wait until they cleared the place. He could always sleep in his car. He had nothing to hide, and they couldn’t arrest him if he wasn’t there anyway.

He shuffled out of the lobby and out onto the dark street, only daring to look up for a moment. But, seeing nothing in the black and starless night overhead, he turned up his collar and jammed his hands into his pockets, his fingers finding the familiar holes he still had not yet patched. He marched off towards Blockbuster first, determined to put at least a mile between him and whatever the hell was happening at his apartment. He didn’t get involved in other peoples’ problems if he could at all possibly wriggle his way out of it. Was it slimy? A little. But it was also decidedly not his problem. He had enough of them as-is.

He made it to the Blockbuster, heard the ding of the bell on the door, and waved to the teenager behind the counter. She spun around in her office chair, looking down at the magazine without really paying him any mind. He rolled his eyes. Whatever. Young punks.

He picked up one or two movies, beginning to engross himself in the only reading he actually did–the summaries on the sleeves of the VHS tapes–when the wall beside him exploded.
